John Glenn Mattel Action Pack
A collectible NASA action pack Hot Wheels play set released by Mattel in 1998 to commemorate Astronaut John Glenn and Mission STS-95. It includes the following:
- 1:55 scale model of the Mercury capsule, Friendship 7 that orbited the Earth three times in 1962 with Astronaut Glenn for which he received the Space Congressional Medal of Honor
- 1:506 scale model of the Space Shuttle Discovery which held the Friendship 7 in one of its main engine nozzles
- 1:55 scale model of Astronaut Glenn in 1962 when he was one of the first seven astronauts in the U.S. Space Program that orbited the Earth three times
- 1:55 scale model of Senator Glenn in 1974 when he was elected the Senator of Ohio for which he completed four consecutive terms until he retired in 1998
- 1:55 scale model of Astronaut Glenn in 1998 when he returned to space as a Mission STS-95 crew member aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery
In addition, the 1998 John Glenn Mattel Action Pack is still in the original, unopened packaging in near-mint condition (slight blister pack crease). It would make a terrific gift for Hot Wheels collectors and space enthusiasts.
